Topic: Racism Affecting Educational Progress of Kids and Adults

Objectives:

  • To convey to the masses as to what actually “racism” means.
  • To create awareness among ourselves about the adverse effects of racism.
  • To bring out to the masses about how severely racism can affect the lives of the individuals by citing some real life examples.
  • To make people aware about the need to eradicate racism from the world.

Outcomes:

  • Creation of awareness among each and every individual, be it a child, an adult or an aged person, about the severe adverse consequences which people are facing which are sometimes life-taking as well.
  • Due to racism in today’s world, by making people aware, we hope to see a change in the mindset of those who has given birth to racism, if not immediately, then atleast gradually, and thereby hoping to see a healthy and racism-free world in the next few years.

Plan of Work:

The group has decided to make a Power Point Presentation for raising the awareness about racism. A lot of people in India even outside the country doesn’t know what racism is. We first need to make the people aware about the serious impact of racism. For achieving this purpose the group has started making posters. Our group will be making three posters in total depicting the seriousness of racism and its impact upon the education of children and adults. The group has already presented a poster in the GHPP class. We have also presented a video which is based on the doll test. Doll test is basically a psychological test where children are shown two identical pictures of a doll but with different skin colours. The children are then asked to choose a doll with which they want to play or choose a doll which looks like a bad doll or a good doll. The result was shocking. The white children of course chose the white doll but even the black children chose the white doll as their play mate. Now the group is planning to look deep into this matter by doing an interview with the parents to know their views of racism. But in this pandemic situation this plan may not be successful. In that case, the group already has a substitute plan. We will be doing an online survey in Google form format or any other online format to achieve the same.

Interdisciplinary Projects done by B.A. (Hons.) Students of School of Education

Interdisciplinary studies involve the combination of two or more academic disciplines into one activity. It is about creating something by thinking across boundaries. It involves researchers, students and teachers in the goals of connecting and integrating several academic schools of thought, professions or technologies-along with their specific perspectives in the pursuit of a common task. Interdisciplinary Projects involving multiple disciplines under one umbrella allow students to apply their knowledge to new situations, resulting in a deeper learning experience. This strategy challenges students to apply knowledge and skills from multiple disciplines and create new solutions to real world problems.

Objectives:

  • Students are highly motivated as they have to study on the topics on which they have interest.
  • Students can cover topics in more depth.
  • Critical Thinking and Creative Thinking Skills are developed.
  • Students begin to consolidate learning by synthesizing ideas.
  • Exploring topics across a range of subject boundaries motivates students to pursue new knowledge in different subject areas.

School of Education, Adamas University is instrumental in applying this Interdisciplinary project for the holistic development of the students of Bachelors of Education (B.A. in Education) and also for churning out the innate capacities of the students. Some Interdisciplinary Projects are given to the students of B.A. Semester-II and they are as follows –

  1. Sports News Analysis: Different video clips or paper cutting related to sports have to be analyzed by the students in terms of their interest, their origination, present status and predictable future fame. A total report should be submitted on 10 different sports.
  2. Implication of Technological Tools in Sports: Some video clips with audio have to be made by the students where they can show and depict how various technologies can be used in sports and what are the advantages of using such technologies. Some disadvantages in implementing Technologies in sports can also be depicted with proper evidences.
  3. Case-study-Unfolding Mental Trauma of a Sports Person: An Online Case Study should be done or the mental condition of a sports person can be analyzed with a questionnaire from which his/her mental health can be analyzed. A detailed report has to be prepared on the cause of the trauma and the needed treatment and exercises to get a balanced mind set. Proper format of case study has to be followed.
  4. Diet Chart of a Sports Person: Proper diet chart for a week has to be prepared following the nutritional details of every meal (Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner). A report has to be prepared on that based on needed calorie every day.

School Study Project

School Study Project is a collaborative project which is conducted by student-teachers during the short-term school internship at second semester of Bachelor of Education (B.Ed.). This is a type of case study and student-teachers prepare a questionnaire to collect the data across a school through survey method. They observe classrooms, visit library and laboratories, playgrounds, resource rooms, contact the teachers, learners, head teacher, and other staff of the school in order to collect data. They study the school in terms of location, managerial styles, teaching-learning process & resources, evaluation system, co-curricular activities, infrastructure, library, laboratory, human resource, and the likes. They find out a complete picture of the school. The School Study Project helps student-teachers to know a school as a whole and as a unit of society and workplace. It helps them to enhance their inquiry and research based skills. It enables them to develop their professional competency. A group of student-teachers allotted to a particular school work on it collaboratively and per school a report is prepared. After finishing the school internship, a comprehensive viva-voce is initiated in order to evaluate their performance.
